Similarly, Asian political and business leaders understand the need to tackle the key issue of the stability of financial systems in Asia. What lessons can they learn from the US and Europe? The Future of Payments: A Cashless, Cardless Society
Led by Chris Skinner, CEO, Balatro

Cash usage is declining around the world but only very slowly, still representing almost three-quarters of all payments flows.   But this is set to change as new forms of anonymous electronic payment service, such as prepaid cards, emerge. Meanwhile, we have almost eradicated cheques and other forms of old paper payments.  Even the Letter of Credit is disappearing.  These payment instruments are being replaced by debit and credit card payments, e-invoicing and other services.  But even the plastic card can be replaced by, for example, mobile telephones.

There can be no doubt that a payments revolution is taking place. This intensive one day workshop will examine the key trends and the major drivers for change, including:

  • Where are we now with mobile payments, micropayments and contactless payments?
  • How Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) or Near Field Communication (NFC) technologies will change the face of payments
  • Why mobile, micro and contactless payments are disruptive technologies in the payments world
  • How they will lead to to new, simple and convenient methods of making low value payments
  • Why - from prepaid to contactless, cash to non-cash, card to non-card - payments in the 21st Century are transforming beyond our dreams
  • But how do you authenticate the identity of payees when you have no idea who they are or how they are paying?
  • Will we see a move towards more complex PINs combined with biometrics?
  • And what about an even grander vision of a completely cash and card free society. Could this happen, and if so, when?

By attending this workshop, attendees will have a clear view of the payments innovations in play, examples of where they are currently being used around the world and the implications on traditional infrastructures.
